M. Spring writes emotionally immersive, character-driven fiction about love, friendship, family, and what happens when ordinary lives collide with circumstances that refuse to stay ordinary.

Her stories are interested in people who already have full lives when everything changes: marriages with history, friendships measured in decades, careers that matter, families that are complicated long before the first page. Whether her characters are navigating medical uncertainty, political upheaval, war, parenthood, or the quieter upheavals of simply loving other people, the heart of the story is rarely whether they can escape the difficult thing. It is what they do while they are inside it.

Spring’s fiction blends the emotional intimacy of contemporary relationship-driven novels with the momentum and stakes of bigger external events. She writes sharp dialogue, deeply established relationships, capable women, complicated families, and love stories in which love matters enormously without magically solving anything.

Her debut novel, Still/Fire, is an upmarket contemporary novel about marriage, friendship, risk, and the impossible arithmetic of deciding how much of a future you are willing to gamble for the life you want.

M. Spring lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. When she isn’t writing, she is usually reading, skiing, building another fictional life in her head, or insisting that the new book idea is absolutely not a new book idea.
